The induction of Rtn Butch Coetzee as the 50th president of the Rotary Club of Gately was such a memorable event. His induction marks a significant milestone in the history of the club which was founded in 1971. Butch takes over from Jacqui Mauer who ably led the club for the past year and was the first female president of Gately.
The dinner was held at The Regent Hotel on the evening of 18 June 2019. It was attended by Rotarians, their partners, and guests. The Rotary theme for the year ahead is "Rotary connects the world"
In his acceptance speech, Rtn Butch said the following:
"Being a Rotarian is about the people we help. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters in Rotary is how much better the world becomes because Rotary is in it, because we made a difference! Complacency is not an option it will only set us back.
I therefore urge you to think again about the reason why you joined Rotary and what fueled your passion to do so! Your club needs you, Rotary needs you, the new Board and I need you, BUT more importantly your community needs you! So with that said let’s make our very distinguished Attendance Officer smile again by allowing him the opportunity to record high percentages of attendance at our club meetings! And at the same time let us recommit some more time to our club projects and fellowship activities.
In conclusion, I wish to state that over the last twelve months we have lit up Rotary with our impactful projects and activities, so let us use that light to create a path so we can live up to the motto of “ Rotary Connecting the World’.
Fellow Rotarians and guests I humbly hereby accept the position of President of the Rotary Club of Gately and with it the responsibilities that go with it. I thank you!"
